Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland - Temporary Shift Information
Our van, Whaea Debs, was stolen and damaged.
Thankfully, we are happy to share that our Tāmaki Makaurau van, Whaea Debs, has been found and returned to us. A sincere ngā mihi nui to every person who has shared our post, kept an eye out and showed the true power of community, we couldn’t be more grateful for your support.
While we are relieved to have Debs back, the van is damaged and will need repairs before getting back on the road to support the community.
While our van is being repaired, we’ll continue to provide free laundry and kōrero through a temporary Pick Up and Drop Off service. Your washing will be collected, washed and dried at a nearby laundromat, while volunteers stay with you onsite for a kōrero.

Shift Information
Current shifts running
Our shifts at the following locations are running as usual.
- Maranga Fanau – 116 Browns Road, Manurewa, Auckland from 10:00am – 2:00pm, Monday – Friday
- Turuki Health – 2/32 Canning Crescent, Māngere, Auckland from 10:00am – 2:00pm, Monday-Wednesday and 10:00am – 12:00pm on Thursday
Extended Shifts
Our Auckland City Mission internal laundry shifts will now be running from Monday – Friday!
- Auckland City Mission – 140 Hobson Street, Auckland CBD from 10:30am – 1:00pm, Monday – Friday
Temporary Shifts
We will be running Pick Up shifts at the following times & shift locations until further notice.
Please note that washing must be dropped off within the first 20 minutes of the shift.
- Starting Tuesday 18th August: Glenfield Salvation Army – 4 Kaipatiki Road, Glenfield from 10:00am – 1:00pm, Tuesdays
- Starting Saturday 22nd August: Embracing Families in Need – 184 Onehunga Mall, Onehunga from 10:00am – 1:00pm, Saturdays
- Starting Saturday 29th August: Haven – 1855 Great North Road, Avondale from 4:30pm – 7:00pm, Saturdays

Because our van is out of action, two volunteers will collect all washing to be done in laundry bags, and travel to a nearby laundromat to wash your belongings. Two other Orange Sky volunteers will stay behind with you onsite, to kōrero while you wait for your belongings to be washed and dried. Your washing will be returned to you by the end of the shift time, clean and dry.
We are hopeful that the van will be repaired and back in community by the beginning of September. However, we know that this could change, so we are doing our best to ensure you can still connect for free laundry and kōrero in the mean time.
The same, friendly Orange Sky tūao (volunteers) you see every week will be at these temporary shift locations. Same site, same friendly volunteer team, same Orange Sky connection.
Our volunteer team collects all belongings during the first 20 minutes before heading off-site to the laundromat. If you arrive after this time, we won’t be able to take your laundry to the laundromat. We recommend arriving to shift early or on time to avoid disappointment.
