At Orange Sky, our commitment to sustainable practices by respecting people and protecting the environment has been at the heart of our mahi since the beginning.
Through our kaitiakitanga approach, we are continually seeking environmentally friendly approaches to extend our reach and impact.
Our awa and waterways are vital to our kaitiakitanga commitment, which is why we prioritise careful management of our greywater.
We have implemented a robust process to ensure responsible greywater discharge, training our volunteers to protect both themselves and the environment. We work alongside community and local councils to reduce any potential risks.
In 2022, we upgraded our existing fleet of laundry and shower vehicles to significantly reduce our environmental impact, maximise service reliability, simplify and reduce the cost of maintenance, and improve the overall experience for volunteers and whānau who use our service. It was important for us to reduce our diesel consumption and carbon footprint.
The addition of solar panels meant that Orange Sky reduced CO2-e and electrical consumption generated by our shifts.
Kaitiakitanga means guardianship and protection of land, sea and sky. It is a way of managing the environment, based on the Māori world view.
All kaimahi in our team understand the importance of and are skilled at working alongside communities and whānau to provide services that protect our whenua and uphold the mana of tangata. We also have a dedicated team that works together to form ideas, build strategies, and implement these practices.
Orange Sky was built on the idea of creating positive change. We thrive on being respectful and sustainable to solve problems, increase our productivity, reach more whānau doing it tough, and make a greater impact.
