Our commitment to innovation stems from our ability to partner with those who deeply understand the community, and adapting our methods to meet the needs of whānau facing hardship.
Through collaboration with our partners and understanding of homelessness in Aotearoa, we recognise just how diversified the needs of communities can be. One model doesn’t fit everyone.
We utilise a range of assets and service delivery models across the motu. For each service we launch, this is chosen depending on the community’s specific needs, resources and available support.
Through discussions with local leaders and providers, we learn valuable insights and knowledge about each community and their needs. Our current asset types and delivery models include pods, hybrid vans, laundry vans and Internal Laundromats. We are also triallng or planning to test a wahine shift, pick-up and drop-off service and working with whānau placed in transitional housing.
At Orange Sky, our commitment to innovation is about creating the right impact for whānau, not about asserting our presence. We work collaboratively to provide community-led solutions for those experiencing homelessness and hardship.
Our innovative approach drives better outcomes in several key areas:
- Sustainability and scalability
- Supporting diverse needs
- Adapting to changing circumstances
- Community engagement and collaboration
By focusing on what’s best for the community, we ensure our efforts are meaningful and effective, working collectively to achieve a mahi tahi approach.
The innovative way we work with the community helps us gain a strategic understanding of where and how we can deliver our service to have the biggest impact for whānau.
Across the motu, we work alongside community leaders, food providers, health providers, and other charities to provide wrap-around support. This collaborative approach has led to the most significant growth in our impact. Through these partnerships and relationships, we gain valuable insights that drive the progression of our services at both local and national levels.
An example of this is our work with some of our local councils, creating a cross-sector working group to discuss service enhancements and collaborative opportunities within the region, aiming for greater impact and positive outcomes.
“I had heard that they (Orange Sky) were going to be in New Zealand and I got the opportunity to meet with them. The council who is one of our long-term partners had let me know and we began to meet and I was just really excited.
The biggest thing for me was that they(Orange Sky) seemed really interested in finding out what it was we needed rather than just saying here’s what we do and we’re just going to come in and do it. That was really awesome and I felt like Orange Sky was really someone we could collaborate with.”
“By providing this kind of service you’re making life bearable for the people that I work with everyday and to me that’s a great thing. It’s a bonus that you’re actually sitting around and talking to them as well that’s a huge part of it for me, that you’re actually building that relationship. I saw that in your work with us, but also in your work even with our guys here today.”
